Article on motion capture …

The Difficulty Of Defining Modern Animation

Yeah, wow. Where do I start? This article was written by someone who’s never touched a .vsk, made a key, or even repaired a capture marker. It’s obvious.

Nearly ALL motion capture in films, especially key characters, is tweaked by a skilled animator.

This does not downplay the performance of the actors, but niether does it downplay the skill of the animator who must still follow all of the complicated and invisible rules that apply to motion.

Motion capture is amazing, and cool, but to make it look like Avatar or Tin Tin is a group effort by the talented actor and the talented animator.

Computers are tools, they are not magical wands that make things happen.

Yeah that strawberry tart is demolished.

Another day, another dude in a video I have to paint out.

Shot by The Kenwood Group, composite by me.

photo I had no idea what I was missing from the Intuos 4!!!(I’ve been on a 3 since like, 08.)
All my Final Cut Pro hotkeys on the tablet and a wheel for scrubbing. Oh my glob!

What could I set up in After effects??! PRE COMPOSE?
I think I might die.

sorry for the laaaaaaaaaaaaate reply. This is awesome. I wish i could learn directly from people from the company D:

Well, you can- in a way!!

I work doing video- even though I graduated from school with a degree in 3D/Visual Effects and wanted to be a modeler. :’D

So um, unless you want to talk to me about editing …

But some of the videos I have to manage are talks given at Siggraph, Autodesk University and other events where Autodesk Software Engineers explain the new features and how to use them.

You can check them out at  http://area.autodesk.com/tutorials

There’s also the AU Masterclasses: http://area.autodesk.com/masterclasses

I’m floored by the amount of free quality education Autodesk is offering. It’s worth a look!

you work in Autodesk e_e?

That’s right! :] I work for Autodesk in the events team. That means I get to travel to fun conferences and shoot video and edit. I even end up doing a little bit of visual effects every now and again.

I swiped that 3dMax / Softimage / Motionbuilder / Mudbox art from sitting on the floor in a dark corner of a room. I’m kind of waiting for someone to come looking for it  …
